Pakistan’s Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises Makes Key Decisions on Directors and Enterprise Strategy

Islamabad, The Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises (CCoSOEs), chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, convened today to make significant decisions regarding the management and strategic direction of various state-owned enterprises in sectors ranging from power distribution to broadcasting.

According to Ministry of Finance, the meeting, which saw participation from key ministers including the Minister for Housing and Works, Minister for Power, and Minister for Maritime Affairs, among others, resulted in the approval of a proposal from the Power Division to nominate independent directors for certain electricity distribution companies. These nominations will be submitted to the cabinet for final approval. However, the committee did not approve the Ministry of Railways’ proposal to categorize four railway companies as strategic and essential, instead directing the ministry to submit a transformation plan for these entities.

Additionally, the CCoSOEs deferred a proposal from the Ministry of Science and Technology, requesting a detailed business plan for reforms intended for the Science and Technology Development Corporation (STEDEC). In a move recognizing the importance of national media outlets, the committee approved the strategic nature of Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) and asked the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to develop a viable business plan for their efficient management.
