Islamabad: Amid escalating student protests in Bangladesh, Pakistani High Commissioner Syed Ahmed Maroof has assured that the safety of Pakistani nationals, particularly students, is being closely monitored and prioritized.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, High Commissioner Maroof stated that the embassy is in continuous communication with Pakistani citizens in Bangladesh to ensure their safety and well-being. The High Commission has maintained regular contact with local authorities and has advised Pakistani students to stay vigilant and confined away from protest areas.
Maroof reported that proactive steps were taken to safeguard students as the situation began to deteriorate, including directives for them to either return to Pakistan or seek refuge at the High Commission if needed. Approximately one-third of the 144 Pakistani students enrolled in Bangladeshi institutions have already returned to Pakistan, with others scheduled to leave shortly.
The envoy emphasized that the High Commission will persist in its efforts to monitor and support the students remaining in Bangladesh, ensuring continuous updates and safety measures are in place during this turbulent period.
