Rome, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain made a significant visit to the Pakistani Embassy in Rome today, where they met with embassy staff and Pakistani nationals to discuss improvements to consular services, particularly in the processing of passports.
According to Press Information Department, the ministers were welcomed by the Pakistani Ambassador to Italy, Ali Javed, who introduced them to the embassy officials. During their visit, Ministers Naqvi and Hussain specifically toured the passport section, where they engaged with several overseas Pakistanis, hearing their concerns firsthand.
Minister Hussain took an active role in addressing the issues presented by citizens from Mandi Bahauddin and Gujrat, directly contacting relevant authorities to resolve their problems promptly. Meanwhile, Minister Naqvi announced plans for a new system to expedite police verification processes for overseas Pakistanis, aimed at facilitating quicker passport services.
In a move to streamline passport issuance, Minister Naqvi declared that urgent passports would now be issued within seven days, and normal passports within thirty days. He also confirmed the establishment of a monitoring cell, led by ASP Sher Bano, to ensure the timely delivery of these documents.
Minister Naqvi emphasized the need for embassy staff to perform their duties with utmost dedication and a professional approach, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving service delivery for its citizens abroad. The visit culminated in the ministers recording their impressions in the visitors’ book, marking their commitment to ongoing support for overseas Pakistanis.
