Pakistan’s Interior Minister Meets Pope Francis, Discusses Peace and Interfaith Harmony

Vatican City, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Pope Francis today in Vatican City as part of his European tour, engaging in discussions that emphasized peace, interfaith harmony, and the global role of Pakistan in promoting these ideals. The meeting highlighted mutual concerns and commitments to enhancing dialogue among different faith communities.

According to Press Information Department, the dialogue between Minister Naqvi and Pope Francis covered a range of issues including the aftermath of the Jaranwala tragedy in Pakistan, where the government’s quick response in repairing and reconstructing churches was commended by the Pope. Pope Francis conveyed a message of peace to the Pakistani people and acknowledged the invitation extended by the Prime Minister of Pakistan for a visit, which he hopes to fulfill soon.

During their meeting, Pope Francis also expressed his deep concerns about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine, a topic he is kept informed about through daily briefings with relief workers. He stressed the importance of interfaith dialogue in resolving such global conflicts.

Minister Naqvi thanked Pope Francis for his stance on Palestine and discussed Pakistan’s efforts in combating terrorism, emphasizing the country’s commitment to protecting minorities as a top priority. He highlighted that the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the vision of Pakistan’s founding father, and the national constitution all underscore the protection and wellbeing of minorities, ensuring equal rights for all.

The meeting concluded with Pope Francis praying for Pakistan’s progress and prosperity and expressing his good wishes for the Pakistani people.
