Pakistan’s Remittance Inflows Surge by 25% in January

Karachi: Pakistan’s remittance inflows witnessed a significant boost in January 2025, reaching $3 billion, marking a 25% year-on-year increase. Over the cumulative period of the first seven months of fiscal year 2025, overseas Pakistanis remitted $20.8 billion, reflecting a substantial 32% growth compared to the same period last year.

According to a statement by JS Global, the growth in remittance inflows was primarily driven by strong contributions from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia (KSA). In January 2025, remittances from the UAE soared by 53% year-on-year, while those from KSA increased by 24%. Combined, the inflows from these two countries jumped by 42% year-on-year during the seven-month period.

The recent surge in remittances has played a crucial role in stabilizing Pakistan’s current account. Over the past eleven months, remittances have averaged around $3 billion per month, a notable rise from the $2.3-2.4 billion monthly average observed in the previous fiscal year and the majority of fiscal year 2024.

The steady remittance inflows have provided vital support to the country’s economy, highlighting the importance of overseas contributions in strengthening Pakistan’s financial landscape.
