Lahore: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority Punjab has issued a high-level flood warning due to the rising water flow in River Sutlej at Ferozepur.
According to Radio Pakistan, the PDMA Punjab Spokesperson reported that River Sutlej at Ferozepur downstream is experiencing a high flood situation, and the water level in the river, as well as adjoining streams and drains, is expected to rise further.
The PDMA has directed all Deputy Commissioners concerned to remain on high alert. Alerts have also been issued to the Commissioners of Lahore, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan, as well as to the Deputy Commissioners of Kasur, Okara, Pakpattan, Vehari, Bahawalnagar, Lodhran, Bahawalpur, Multan, and Muzaffargarh.
The DG PDMA Punjab, Irfan Ali Kathia, stated that in line with the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, all necessary arrangements must be completed without delay. He urged the public to cooperate fully with the district administration and rescue agencies. People can contact PDMA’s helpline at 1129 in case of any emergency.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority of Punjab, on the advance alert issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), has initiated large-scale evacuation operations in the areas near River Sutlej due to the increasing water level.
According to NDMA, approximately one hundred fifty thousand people have been relocated to safer areas from flood-prone regions by the PDMA Punjab. Specifically, over fourteen thousand people have been evacuated from Kasur, more than two thousand from Okara, nearly ninety thousand from Bahawalnagar, 361 from sensitive areas of Bahawalpur, over one hundred sixty from Vehari, and nearly nine hundred from Pakpattan.
The NDMA has already issued directives to the relevant agencies and emergency services to remain on high alert due to the rising water level in rivers and nullahs across the province.
