People protest against killing of youth in custody

Srinagar, January 14, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, body of a Kashmiri youth, who was picked up by Indian Army five days ago was found in Peerbagh in Srinagar with torture marks on it. The youth, Owais Bashir Malik, son of Bashir Ahmed Malik, resident of Peerbagh, had gone missing five days back. The family said that the youth was picked by the Indian Army. The family further said that the body had severe torture marks. The youth’s throat was slit with some sharp-edged weapon.

Hurriyet leaders Javed Ahmed Mir, Engineer Hilal Ahmed War and activists of Democratic Freedom Party visited Peerbagh to express solidarity with the bereaved family of the youth. The killing led to forceful anti-India protests at Humhama Chowk in Srinagar, today. The protesters raised high-pitched pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. Several people including women were injured when police and army personnel resorted to baton-charge and teargas shelling on the protesters.

Situation turned out of control at Airport Road when youth came out of every corner and started protesting against the brute murder of the youth. The cavalcade of former puppet Chief Minister of the occupied territory, Omar Abdullah was also attacked. Meanwhile, shutdown continued for the 15th consecutive day in Pulwama, today, against the authorities’ denial to erection of a martyrs’ memorial in the town.
