Remembering martyrs is people’s right: Shabbir Shah

Srinagar, January 14, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, senior Hurriyet leader and the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Shabbir Ahmad Shah has said that the Kashmiri people have every right to remember their martyrs. Shabbir Ahmad Shah in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the occupation authorities were complicating the issue of installation of martyrs’ memorial in Pulwama.

Complete shutdown was observed for several days in the town over the denial by the authorities of the erection of the memorial at Shaheed Park. “Such attitude on part of authorities is against the law,” he said, adding, “People have every right to remember their beloved ones who sacrificed their lives while fighting the tyranny and oppression.” Reiterating his support to the martyrs’ memorial campaign, Shabbir Shah extended support to the call given by the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, for peaceful protests on Friday.

The DFP Chairman also condemned the use of brute force by Indian police on the peaceful demonstrators who were protesting in Zewan area of Srinagar against the killing of a youth by Indian troops. He said that such repressive tactics could not weaken the liberation sentiment of the Kashmiri people rather they would make their resolve towards the ongoing freedom movement more strong.
