Peshawar Initiates Comprehensive Digitization Drive in Industrial Sector

Peshawar, Abdul Karim Tordhir, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Industry, Technology, and Technical Education, has mandated an acceleration in the digitization of the Directorate General of Industries and Commerce. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize the sector and enhance services related to consumer rights. The directive aims to facilitate access to detailed information on the province’s special resources and manufactured goods, thereby streamlining operations and improving profitability.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during his visit to the Directorate General of Industries and Commerce, Tordhir received a comprehensive briefing on the institution’s performance, objectives, and operational responsibilities. Highlighting the significance of digital transformation, he instructed the creation of a resource mapping cluster to catalogue the unique products and resources of different regions within the province.

Further directives included steps to revitalize the Government Printing Press, making it a more active and profitable entity. The meeting, attended by DG Industries Kabir Afridi, Director Industries Muhammad Hanif, and other officials, shed light on the department’s achievements and ongoing activities. Notably, consumer rights protection has seen the resolution of 5,086 cases, resulting in fines totaling 4700 million rupees. The department also reported substantial progress in inspections and goal attainment for the fiscal year.

The Special Assistant was informed of the finalization and cabinet submission of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Registration Warehouse Act 2021 rules, alongside the completion of the Industries Commerce and Trade Statistics Act regulations. Efforts are also underway to compile a comprehensive resource mapping report to facilitate access to regional product data.

This includes online registration, operational activities, and public sharing of information through an improved Management Information System (MIS). The aim is to enhance transparency, efficiency, and public access to industrial and commerce services across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
