Islamabad: The Petroleum Division of Pakistan is making strides in enhancing its operations and international partnerships, particularly with stakeholders in China and Saudi Arabia, as it seeks to expand its influence and capabilities in the mineral sector.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the division has been actively collaborating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to present a unified stance on Pakistan’s offshore blocks at an upcoming international meeting. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve liaison and consensus-building with key international partners.
The division has also been directed to convene an inter-provincial meeting, in collaboration with the inter-provincial coordination committee, to discuss the regulatory framework of minerals. This meeting aims to harmonize and advance the regulatory environment across provinces, facilitating smoother operations and development in the mineral sector.
Additionally, the Special Secretary of the Petroleum Division reported significant developments, including the transfer of all federal government mineral-related projects to a newly established minerals wing. This wing is in the process of hiring consultants to bolster its operations and expertise.
Efforts to enhance energy resources include exploring options to import Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from Turkmenistan in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, which is expected to improve the energy supply in Pakistan significantly.
Another notable advancement is the integration of advanced mining and processing technologies in the Reko Diq project, which not only enhances technical expertise within the country but also aims to strengthen Pakistan’s global standing in the mineral industry.
