Beijing, During a meeting with Zhang Jianghua, Chairman of the National Energy Administration of China, Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Prof. Ahsan Iqbal discussed the future of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and its shift towards green energy initiatives. The meeting took place at the Diaoyutai Guest House and included discussions on enhancing Pakistan’s energy sector efficiency and sustainability.
According to Press Information Department, Prof. Iqbal detailed the “Green Corridor” initiative, a key component of CPEC’s second phase aimed at diversifying Pakistan’s energy mix to include more renewable sources. He outlined the government’s plans to make the energy sector more efficient and affordable, which includes reducing line losses and power theft.
The discussions also covered new energy management initiatives, the safety of Chinese nationals in Pakistan, and the continued collaboration on major hydro power projects like Azad Pattan and Kohala. Both parties agreed to expedite the next Joint Working Group meeting on Energy, underscoring the importance of CPEC’s Joint Coordination Committee in decision-making. This meeting is part of a broader series of engagements in Beijing, preparing for upcoming high-level discussions and the Prime Minister’s visit to China.
