PM Forms Committee for Improving Civil Service Structure

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a committee to prepare recommendations for aligning civil services with contemporary requirements, improving the structural framework, and modernizing the system. The committee will be headed by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting on civil service reforms in Islamabad, directing the committee to submit comprehensive, reform-based recommendations after detailed consultations within one month. The Prime Minister instructed the committee to address merit-based recruitment of the best talent, introduce Key Performance Indicators based on specific targets for promotions, and propose improvements or effective alternatives to the existing Annual Confidential Report system.

He also emphasized the inclusion of a roadmap for enhancing officers’ capacity in modern technology and systems. Shehbaz Sharif stressed that the recommendations should lay the foundation for a sustainable system, improve governance, and establish a permanent mechanism to continuously align civil services with evolving needs.

The Prime Minister highlighted that reforms aimed at making civil services more responsive and simplifying the lives of ordinary citizens remain among the government’s top priorities. The meeting was briefed that proposals are being compiled after consultations regarding recruitment, training, performance evaluation, salary improvements, and promotions. A comparative review of civil service reforms in other regional countries was also presented.
