PM Shahbaz Sharif’s Tenure to Focus on Economic Stability, Says Mian Zahid Hussain

Karachi, Mian Shahbaz Sharif’s current term as Prime Minister is expected to outperform his previous tenure, with a strong emphasis on economic stability over popularity, As per Mian Zahid Hussain, a prominent figure in Pakistan’s business community. Hussain, who holds leadership roles in the National Business Group Pakistan, Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum, and All Karachi Industrial Alliance, and is a former provincial minister, shared his insights on Wednesday, underlining the challenging yet crucial decisions made by PM Sharif during his first term, including an IMF deal that laid the groundwork for necessary economic reforms.

According to Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum, Hussain praised PM Sharif for his efforts to save the country from bankruptcy at the cost of political damage to his party. He expressed confidence in Sharif’s commitment to improving the country’s economy and emphasized the Prime Minister’s interest in national development through inclusive efforts. However, Hussain criticized some political parties for prioritizing personal interests over national economic concerns and the general welfare.

Hussain urged the Prime Minister to pursue a Charter of the Economy and a Charter of Reconciliation to focus on national development. He highlighted the importance of meritocracy in government appointments, especially during this critical period, to ensure efficient governance and public relief. He cautioned against the adverse effects of non-meritorious appointments on both the Prime Minister’s reputation and the nation’s economic stability.

The business leader also commended PM Sharif’s stance against revenge politics and stressed the need for tough decisions to revitalize failed government institutions, reduce losses in the electricity and gas sectors, lower energy prices, and expand the tax base. He called for bold political steps to alleviate the political tension that has significantly harmed the economy.

Furthermore, Hussain condemned the negative reactions from some political parties towards PM Sharif’s efforts, calling for public rejection of such entities to support the government’s economic recovery initiatives.
