Police Accountability Focuses on Women’s Complaints in Karachi

Karachi, In a significant move to enhance police accountability and efficiency in Karachi, Additional IG of the Internal Accountability Branch (IAB), Imran Mehmood, has chaired a meeting to expedite the resolution of pending cases at the 1787 Complaint Center. Special emphasis was placed on prioritizing complaints filed by women, covering issues such as harassment, abuse, fraud, and property disputes.

According to Punjab Police, the meeting, held at the Central Police Office, saw participation from Regional Police Officers (RPOs), City Police Officers (CPOs), and District Police Officers (DPOs) across the province via video link. The session focused on scrutinizing the complaints registered at the 1787 Complaint Center and assessing the ongoing efforts for their redressal. Imran Mehmood tasked the officers with resolving all outstanding complaints swiftly, emphasizing the importance of rapid justice, especially in cases concerning women.

Furthermore, Mehmood directed the police officials to adhere strictly to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for FIR registration and investigation, ensuring timely and efficient service to the public. He warned that officers failing to act promptly on citizens’ requests would be removed from field duties. He also instructed DPOs to conduct surprise inspections and use the dashboard to personally monitor the complaint resolution process.

The 1787 Complaint Center operates seven days a week to accommodate the needs of citizens, with Mehmood urging officers to manage the workload more effectively to ensure public convenience. The meeting underscored the police department’s commitment to improving its response to citizen grievances, particularly those affecting women, and to uphold justice and accountability within the force.
