Islamabad: Power generation in April 2025 reached a notable milestone, recording the highest year-on-year growth since April 2022, according to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). The data, released recently, showed that power generation for the month reached 10,513 gigawatt-hours (GWh), marking a 22% increase compared to the same period last year.
Despite the significant growth observed in April, the cumulative power generation for the first ten months of the fiscal year 2025 (10MFY25) showed a marginal decline of 0.4% year-on-year, totaling approximately 100,661 GWh.
The average cost of power generation for April 2025 remained steady year-on-year at Rs8.95 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). However, there was a 3% decline on a sequential basis from the previous month.
This reduction in generation cost is primarily attributed to an increased contribution from hydropower plants, which constituted 22% of the energy mix in April 2025, up from 15% in the previous month.
