PPL and BME Forge Ahead with Landmark Mining Pact in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Petroleum Limited and Bolan Mining Enterprises have entered into a significant agreement with the Government of Balochistan for the Barite-Lead-Zinc project, marking a pivotal moment in the nation’s mineral development efforts. The accord was finalized on April 8 during the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025 in Islamabad.

The signing event was attended by prominent government figures, including Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, highlighting the project’s importance. The agreement was executed by Imran Abbasy, Managing Director and CEO of PPL, and Saidal Khan Luni, Secretary of Mines and Minerals for Balochistan.

As a key participant in the forum, PPL emphasized its expanding role in the mining industry by presenting a booth organized by its subsidiary, BME. The exhibit attracted considerable interest from a wide array of attendees, including government officials, international representatives, and industry experts.

One of the notable features of PPL’s involvement was the introduction of a detailed Mineral Map of Pakistan. The map, illustrating the country’s extensive mineral resources, garnered attention for its comprehensive depiction of industrial minerals, metals, and gemstones.

The Barite-Lead-Zinc project, managed by Bolan Mining Enterprises, a joint venture with the Balochistan government since 1974, is poised to enhance economic growth in Khuzdar through various developmental initiatives.

This agreement underscores the government’s dedication to promoting public-private collaborations for mineral development, potentially positioning Pakistan as a key player in the global mineral market.
