President and Prime Minister Reaffirm Commitment to Universal Education in Pakistan

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have reiterated the government’s dedication to ensuring education for all, emphasizing it as a fundamental right under the Constitution of Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, both leaders issued statements on the occasion of International Literacy Day, calling for renewed efforts to promote universal education. President Zardari highlighted several government initiatives aimed at combating illiteracy, including the declaration of a National Educational Emergency, the Prime Minister’s Roshan Pakistan Literacy Drive, and the introduction of Conditional Cash Transfers through Benazir Taleemi Wazaif to encourage school enrollment and provide stipends for students across all districts. He urged the nation to recommit to the cause of making education accessible to everyone.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, emphasized the integration of technology in education as part of a comprehensive plan to prepare youth for the digital economy. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to advance the education agenda and called for collective efforts to promote literacy and build a sustainable future. The Prime Minister also pointed to key initiatives, including a nationwide student enrollment campaign, the provision of mid-day meals, and scholarships aimed at reducing dropout rates and ensuring that every child completes their education.
