President Zardari Urges Collaboration to Tackle Pakistan’s Rising Energy Costs

Islamabad: In a significant move to address the growing concern over rising energy costs, President Asif Ali Zardari today called for the creation of a committee to work in conjunction with his office and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) to find effective solutions.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a meeting in Islamabad with a delegation from the FPCCI led by Dr. Gohar Ejaz, President Zardari acknowledged the challenges Pakistani businesses face due to escalating energy and fuel costs. He proposed that FPCCI form a committee to develop a viable strategy, particularly focusing on the issue of capacity charges paid to Independent Power Producers.

Dr. Ejaz highlighted the critical need for reforms within the energy sector to reduce prices, noting that high costs are heavily impacting people, industries, agriculture, and the export sector. He urged the President to actively intervene and help address the issues plaguing the country’s industrial and business sectors due to high electricity prices.

President Zardari reassured the delegation of his commitment to supporting their efforts and promised to engage with the relevant authorities to facilitate a resolution to these ongoing issues.
