President Zardari Urges Rapid Development in Gilgit-Baltistan

Islamabad, In a significant meeting today with Gilgit-Baltistan’s top officials, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the urgent need to fast-track infrastructure development in the region, focusing on enhancing local education and health sectors to align with the national standards of other developed regions in Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during discussions with Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Syed Mehdi Shah and Chief Minister Gul Bar Khan, President Zardari was briefed on the ongoing development efforts and the pressing challenges the region faces. These include severe deficiencies in educational and health facilities, and high unemployment rates. The local leaders also extended an invitation for the President to visit the region and address the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly.

President Zardari highlighted Gilgit-Baltistan’s vast potential for hydroelectric power and its wealth of natural resources such as minerals and gems. He underscored the necessity of harnessing these assets to foster economic growth and prosperity in the area.

Further, the President called for the initiation of targeted training and skill development programs tailored to the local job market, to ensure the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan are well-prepared for employment opportunities. He also stressed the importance of supporting and promoting local businesses to drive economic activities that can lead to self-sufficiency for the region.

The President’s call for enhanced infrastructure, alongside a push for substantial improvements in health and education, underlines a commitment to fostering sustainable development in Gilgit-Baltistan.
