Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Directs Measures to Boost Wheat Production

Islamabad: In a decisive move to increase agricultural output, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has mandated the implementation of strategies aimed at boosting the production of wheat and other crops. This directive came during a meeting focused on agricultural strategy and the operations of key governmental bodies involved in food security and agriculture.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting, which addressed issues related to the Ministry of National Food Security and Research and the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO), resulted in significant directives including the restructuring of the Wheat Board. Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the need for an inclusive approach in agricultural planning by proposing the inclusion of farmers’ representatives, as well as members from the Land Information and Management System and the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) in the Wheat Board.

Additionally, the Prime Minister called for the preparation of an action plan focused on the privatization of PASSCO. He also instructed the creation of a federal government’s alternative strategy for wheat procurement after extensive consultations with provincial authorities, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and other relevant institutions.

These steps are part of a broader effort to enhance food security and agricultural productivity in Pakistan, which is crucial for the country’s economic stability and growth.
