Islamabad, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed a comprehensive crackdown on illegal activities and criminal mafias in Pakistan, highlighting a national agenda to improve economic stability and public welfare. During a meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister underscored the necessity of joint efforts across federal and provincial levels to combat corruption and economic leakages.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the high-level meeting led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif focused on the implementation of robust measures against a range of illegal activities, including power theft, smuggling, and financial corruption. Initiatives such as the Anti-Power Theft policy, modernization of Power Distribution Companies, and the installation of Smart meters were approved to eradicate systemic issues affecting the nation’s economy.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of these initiatives in providing relief to the populace and addressing the challenges posed by economic malfeasance. Notably, the meeting reported significant recoveries in the power sector and a reduction in smuggling activities under the interim government’s watch.
Shehbaz Sharif called for the digitalization of the Federal Board of Revenue and the merit-based appointment of tribunal heads to ensure transparency and efficiency in the country’s fiscal management. He also highlighted the critical condition of law and order, instructing the Interior Minister to ensure the safety of the public and enhance coordination with provincial authorities.
The meeting, attended by cabinet members, the Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, and other high-ranking officials, concluded with a unified commitment to bolster Pakistan’s economy through concerted action against illegal activities and financial leakages.
