Lahore, Directed by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the province successfully executed the ambitious 72-hour “Zero Waste Mission” during Eid-ul-Adha. This initiative marked a significant advancement in waste management, using drone technology and Safe City cameras for the first time to monitor cleanliness operations extensively, especially along Lahore Canal where littering was notably reduced by 80%.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Chief Minister Sharif actively monitored the cleanliness drive, which included distributing over 3.2 million biodegradable bags and implementing stringent measures against littering, resulting in fines totaling 280,000 PKR. The initiative was supported by extensive ground efforts from local government officials, including Provincial Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq and Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, who ensured rigorous field supervision.
Special efforts were made to clean mosques, Eidgahs, markets, and public thoroughfares, while special guards were deployed to ensure public safety around the canals. The Chief Minister praised the efforts of all involved, highlighting the operation as a demonstration of public service and commitment to making Punjab a model province in terms of cleanliness and governance.
