Lahore: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari announced a series of new initiatives aimed at empowering the youth and supporting farmers in the province. A new finance scheme, approved by the Cabinet, will provide government land to youth without lease and offer interest-free loans up to 30 million rupees.
According to a statement by Chief Minister of Punjab, the government plans to launch nearly 100,000 small and medium-sized startups. The initiative is seen as part of the efforts led by Maryam Nawaz, who has become a figure of hope for the progressive youth of Pakistan. The number of laptops for students will also increase to 40,000, while scholarships will cover tuition fees for deserving students in their second and third years.
Azma Bokhari also highlighted other significant measures, including the approval of the Hindu-Sikh Marriage Act, which will be implemented across Punjab. Through the “Kissan Card,” farmers have reportedly made purchases worth 46 billion rupees, with over 9,000 green tractors distributed.
In terms of infrastructure, registration of all vehicles, including rickshaws, will become mandatory within six months. The province aims to boost cotton and sugarcane production and will see 28 electric buses on Lahore’s roads in the coming days.
The Cabinet has also approved an increase in funding for a dialysis program, raising it from 700,000 to 1 million rupees. A special court for overseas Pakistanis is set to be established to address their concerns. Azma Bokhari concluded by noting the doubling of the Journalist Support Funds, reflecting a broader commitment to various sectors within the province.
