Lahore: The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) has significantly ramped up its efforts to enforce traffic laws and ensure public safety on highways throughout the province, following a directive from Inspector General of Police, Dr. Usman Anwar.
According to Punjab Police, the recent weekly performance report released by the PHP Headquarters highlighted an extensive operation across all cities, including Lahore. The PHP teams have conducted checks on over 665,000 individuals via E-Police Posts, resulting in the arrest of 113 wanted criminals and court absconders.
The operations also included inspections of 344,250 vehicles, leading to the recovery of 52 stolen cars and motorcycles. As part of the Road Safety Campaign, PHP issued 46,963 e-challans for traffic violations and managed 9,718 overloaded vehicles through fines and legal actions, contributing Rs 2 crore to the treasury. Additionally, the PHP took action against 175 vehicles using illegal gas cylinders.
The PHP’s community services extended to issuing 3,278 driving licenses to facilitate citizens’ transportation needs. Moreover, PHP teams successfully reunited 17 missing children with their parents and removed 59 temporary and permanent encroachments to improve traffic flow. They also provided assistance to 1,521 travelers and offered various police services to 1,028 citizens at Police Khidmat Marakaz.
Furthermore, PHP registered 20 cases related to illegal weapons and seized significant quantities of illicit substances, including 250 liters of alcohol and 25 kilograms of charas, from drug traffickers.
Dr. Usman Anwar has commended the PHP for their outstanding performance and reiterated his directive for continued dedication to managing traffic, enhancing citizen services, and bolstering overall protection on the highways.
