Punjab Police Clarifies Circumstances Around Attempted Self-Immolation Incident Near CPO

Lahore, The Punjab Police have issued a statement clarifying the events surrounding the attempted self-immolation of Asghar Sohail near the Central Police Office (CPO). The police spokesperson disputed earlier media reports suggesting that Sohail was denied a meeting at the IG office, leading to his drastic action.

According to Punjab Police, CCTV footage from the scene shows that Asghar Sohail first appeared near the CPO at approximately 1:47 PM, contrary to reports that he arrived at 7 AM. He was observed walking from Old Anarkali police station to the CPO, displaying suspicious behavior before setting himself on fire. Elite police driver Hameed, who was patrolling the area, noticed Sohail’s actions and intervened in an attempt to save him. Both Sohail and Officer Hameed suffered severe burns and were immediately taken to Mayo Hospital for treatment.

The Punjab Police have requested media outlets to adhere to the facts and refrain from broadcasting misinformation, emphasizing the availability of clear CCTV evidence. This clarification aims to address any misunderstandings about the police’s response to the incident and the circumstances leading up to it.
