Quetta Conference Highlights Need for Gender Sensitivity in Climate Policies

Quetta: The National Conference on Environmental Sensitivity, held in Quetta, called for the integration of gender equality throughout national and provincial climate policies, moving beyond traditional single-chapter allocations. This two-day event, organized by the Forum for Dignity Initiatives (FDI) Pakistan, brought together experts to underscore the importance of gender-based considerations in all aspects of environmental policy-making.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, Uzma Yaqoob, head of FDI Pakistan, emphasized the significance of incorporating gender-sensitive approaches throughout policy frameworks to enhance the efficacy of climate adaptation and peacebuilding efforts. Notable speakers, including Dr. Gul Sabin Ghorizai, Dr. Tahira Kamal, and Dakir Mehwish Quddus Alizai, discussed how integrating these perspectives could strengthen relationships with local stakeholders and yield more sustainable outcomes.

The participants highlighted the disproportionate impact of climate disasters on women, noting their underrepresentation in decision-making roles. They advocated for the establishment of climate funds at the provincial level and stressed the need for women’s effective representation in policymaking processes to address these disparities adequately.
