Romina Khurshid Alam Advocates for Gender Equity and Population Management for Climate Resilience

Islamabad: Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, emphasized the critical need for gender equity and effective population management to enhance climate resilience and reduce emissions. In her address marking World Population Day, she underscored the intersections between population dynamics, climate change, and gender inequality.

According to Press Information Department, Alam pointed out that as the global population increases, the demand for energy, food, and resources escalates, leading to higher emissions and exacerbating climate change. She highlighted the adverse effects of climate change on food production, particularly in South Asia, stressing that it could lead to food insecurity and malnutrition. Alam argued that managing population growth and promoting gender equity are essential components of a broader climate resilience strategy. She called for global cooperation to develop sustainable solutions that address these pressing issues and mitigate climate impacts, especially in vulnerable populations.
