Srinagar-Jammu highway remains closed on fifth day

Srinagar, April 05, 2015 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the 300-km-long Jammu-Srinagar highway remained closed for the fifth consecutive day Sunday due to landslides. Fresh landslides in Magarkoot and three other places in Ramban sector of the highway hampered efforts to clear the road, said reports.

Due to the closure of the Highway, the only surface link that connects the Kashmir Valley to the rest of the world, over 600 Kashmir-bound passengers are stranded at the Jammu bus stand for the past four days. They are demanding that they be airlifted to the Kashmir Valley. About 700-800 trucks are stranded at various places at Jammu, Udhampur, Banihal, Ramban, Batote and Patnitop areas on the Highway.
