Islamabad, July 20, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunications expressed grave concern over poor telecom services provided by Telecom Operators all over the Country. A meeting of the Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunications was held today on 19th July, 2023 at 02:00 p.m in Committee Room No. 7, Parliament House, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali, MNA.
The Committee expressed its concern about poor services provided by Telecom Operators, most of the calls get disconnected after some seconds of dealing however, the consumers have to pay the charges which is totally unjustified. The telecom Companies should improve their Internet services and call connectivity for smooth transmission. Earlier, the Director General, Enforcement PTA briefed the Committee about the problems faced by telecom operators specially in procurement of equipment related to telecom sectors due to closure of LCs moreover, unscheduled load shedding and alternate energy i.e. cost of fuel also impact over smooth service.
He stated that the service charges in Pakistan are cheapest than other countries of South Asia therefore, it is almost impossible to provide carpet network coverage especially in un-accessible areas of the Country. He also stated that PTA conduct surveys from time to time in order to check the services provided by telecom operators if found un-satisfactory the department initiate actions against them besides imposition of heavy fines. He said that in current scenario the telecom operators had to increase the tariff in order to meet their operational expenses. The Committee expressed that according to the International Surveys the Pakistan ranked as worst data connectivity country which needs to be improved. The Committee directed PTA to focus on improvement of IT Industry as it is the only profitable sector of future. Ministry of IT may initiate Skill Development Programs by conducting Training Sessions for the youth enabling them to export their services and contribute the Government exchequer.
3. The Committee expressed its grave concern over the poor performance and conduct of FIA, Cyber Crime Wing Karachi as they found involved in conniving with the culprits. The Committee was of the view that it was reported that FIA official’s casual attitude and conduct encourage the
Cyber Crime offenders to black mail victims and commit more crimes by spread their networks.
3. Besides the official of the Ministry the following MNAs, Ayesha Rajab Ali, Ms. Naz Baloch, Ms. Shamim Ara Panhwar, Syed Mehmood Shah, Mr. Salahuddin, Mahesh Kumar Malani, and Moulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali MNA/Movers attended the meeting.
