Karachi, Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Atajan Movlamov, met with Pakistan’s newly appointed Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, in Islamabad on April 3, 2024, to discuss initiatives aimed at expanding the trade partnership between the two nations. The discussions underscored a mutual commitment to elevating bilateral trade relations and exploring new cooperative avenues.
According to Press Information Department, Minister Jam Kamal affirmed Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing its trade dynamics with Turkmenistan, with both sides evaluating strategies to increase trade volumes and establish more effective transport and transit routes. The meeting particularly focused on the potential benefits of a forthcoming Transit Trade Agreement (TTA), which is nearing completion.
Ambassador Movlamov highlighted Turkmenistan’s capabilities in providing cost-efficient electricity solutions to Pakistan and the prospective energy sector collaborations, including Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and electric power supply. The anticipated signing of the TTA, set to take place either in Islamabad or Ashgabat, marks a significant milestone in formalizing the transit pathways and trade enhancements desired by both countries.
The officials agreed upon the importance of frequent delegation exchanges to ensure smooth progress toward finalizing the TTA, aiming to facilitate a more streamlined and prosperous trade relationship between Turkmenistan and Pakistan.
