Jakarta, November 17, 2014 (PPI-OT): A 15 member delegation of Sargodha Chamber of Commerce and Industries led by Chaudhary Muhammad Shoaib, representing Kinnow growers and exporters, visited Indonesia from 11-16th November 2014 to consolidate the position of Pakistani kinnow (Mandarin) in the market and enhance the share.
With operationalization of Indonesia Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement (in which customs duty on kinnow has been waived) , Mutual Recognition Agreement on Sanitary and Phyto sanitary measures for agricultural products , grant of Pest Free Area Recognition and permission of entry through Tanjung Priok Port of Jakarta since September 2013, Pakistan’s kinnow exports to Indonesia increased from US $ 3 Million in 2013 season to US $ 20 Million in 2014 season (Jan-May).
Pakistan captured 10% share in US $ 200 Million Indonesian import market of oranges. For 2015 season, kinnow exports are expected to double. The Mission arranged meetings with Indonesian Fruit and Vegetable Importers and exporters Association (ASEIBSSINDO), Indonesian Processes Food and Beverage Association (GAPMMI) Indonesian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KADIN INDONESIA), Jakarta Chamber of Commerce and Industries, and Suppliers of Indonesian retail chains Carrefour, Hero Group, Ranch Market.
Back to back meetings were also arranged at the Embassy with leading individual companies importing fresh fruits and vegetables. Five Pakistani companies also exhibited their products at Interfood Indonesia Expo 2014 in which kinnow, potatoes, onions, processed parathas, snacks, honey, husk, rose water, herbal tea and medicines received good response.
These were Golden Harvest Foods, Marhaba Laboratories, Mohammad Hashim Tajir Surma, Mateela Kinnow Factory and Al-Mahmood Establishment. Twenty one countries had national pavilions in the exhibition as Indonesia is fast becoming trade hub of ASEAN. Pakistani companies were successful in getting orders and negotiating with interested distributors.
