Washik: The Balochistan Nutrition Directorate, in collaboration with UNICEF, conducted an awareness seminar in Basima as part of World Breastfeeding Week, focusing on the vital health benefits of breastfeeding. The event highlighted the nutritional completeness of breast milk and its role in protecting both mothers and infants against various health issues.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the seminar featured insights from District Health Officer Washik Dr. Sanaullah Riki, among other health professionals. Speakers emphasized that breast milk contains all essential nutrients required for a newborn’s development and cannot be substituted by modern science. They advocated for exclusive breastfeeding until six months of age followed by complementary feeding to support a child’s continued growth.
The discussions also covered the immunological advantages of breast milk, which helps safeguard infants from infectious diseases, and the long-term health benefits for mothers. The event included a call to action for immediate postnatal care, such as vaccinations and polio drops, to further ensure infant health.
The seminar concluded with a public walk through the main streets of Basima to spread awareness about the importance of breastfeeding, demonstrating a community-wide commitment to enhancing child and maternal health.
