Ziarat Hosts Agricultural Seminar to Address Zamindar Challenges, Explore Financial Solutions

Ziarat, A seminar focusing on the agricultural sector’s challenges and opportunities was held in Ziarat, organized by the Department of Agriculture in collaboration with the State Bank of Pakistan. The event brought together various banking officials and a significant number of local landowners (zamindars) to discuss financial solutions and support mechanisms for the agricultural community in the region.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Haji Nazir Ahmed Panizai, highlighted the critical dependency of Ziarat’s economy on agriculture. He noted that while the 2022 monsoon rains alleviated some water scarcity issues by raising water levels, electricity shortages continue to hinder water extraction, posing significant challenges for irrigation. Panizai called for an integrated policy approach from both government and non-governmental organizations to support Ziarat’s zamindars, who he described as particularly vulnerable.

Financial officers from the State Bank and Habib Bank detailed their ongoing efforts to extend credit facilities to these landowners, aiming to ease their operational difficulties and promote agricultural development. The seminar also addressed the need for better banking accessibility in Ziarat, as the absence of local bank branches complicates zamindars’ ability to secure necessary funds.
