AIIB and Pakistan Forge Ahead with Development Collaboration

Islamabad, The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and Pakistan have reinforced their strategic partnership with discussions on future development plans aimed at enhancing infrastructure and supporting economic growth.

According to Press Information Department, Mr. Ludger Schuknecht, Vice President and Corporate Secretary of AIIB, met with Mr. Ahad Khan Cheema, the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, in Islamabad. The meeting, which also included the Secretary and Special Secretary of the Ministry, focused on deepening cooperation on key development issues including poverty reduction, climate change, and the advancement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Vice President expressed AIIB’s commitment to continuing its support for Pakistan, acknowledging the bank’s significant role in assisting Pakistan during the 2022 floods and in ongoing economic recovery efforts.

Minister Cheema highlighted the country’s improving economic outlook and appreciated AIIB’s support in considering new infrastructure projects from Pakistan. He also praised AIIB’s Climate Action Plan and its alignment with Pakistan’s needs as a climate-vulnerable country, affirming the government’s support for new financing initiatives proposed by the bank.
