Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) paid tribute to the Aali Kadal martyrs on the 31st anniversary of their deaths, reaffirming its commitment to the struggle for Kashmir’s right to self-determination. The APHC emphasized the significance of the martyrs’ sacrifices in the ongoing conflict and reiterated its call for a United Nations-mandated plebiscite.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the commemoration marks the day in 1992 when Indian forces killed prominent resistance leader Sheikh Abdul Hameed and his associates, including Mushtaq Ahmed Lone and others, at Aali Kadal in Srinagar. Activists visited the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Eidgah, Srinagar, to honor their memory.
An APHC spokesman stated that the martyrs’ sacrifices are indelibly etched in the hearts of the Kashmiri people. He urged continued perseverance in the demand for self-determination and highlighted the APHC’s unwavering resolve to achieve a fair resolution to the Kashmir conflict.
The APHC noted that, even after 77 years of occupation, the Kashmiri people remain firm in their pursuit of freedom. It condemned India’s efforts to alter the demographic composition of the region as a means to influence future plebiscite outcomes, viewing such actions as punitive measures against Kashmiris asserting their rights.
The APHC called on the international community to prioritize a resolution reflecting the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, stressing that enduring peace in South Asia hinges on this issue. It urged the United Nations to enforce its resolutions on Kashmir and to press India to fulfill its commitments and cease oppressive policies in the region.
In related events, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) held a prayer event in Rawalpindi for the Aali Kadal martyrs, demanding the release of party Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik and other detainees. In Islamabad, Hurriyat AJK leader Qazi Imran paid tribute to Shaheed Ejaz Akbar, recently martyred in Sopore, extending condolences to his family.
