APM Terminals CEO Discusses Investment Opportunities with Pakistani Maritime Officials

Islamabad, Danish Ambassador to Pakistan H.E. Jakob Linulf and Moller-Maersk (APM) Terminals CEO Mr. Keith Svendsen led a high-level delegation to meet with Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan. The meeting, held with Federal Secretary Maritime Dr. Iram Khan, Secretary Apex Committee, SIFC Dr. Jahanzeb, Additional Secretary Communication, Chairman of Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Chairman of Port Qasim Authority (PQA), and other officials from the Maritime Ministry, focused on investment prospects in Pakistan’s ports and terminals sector.

According to Press Information Department, Mr. Svendsen emphasized Moller-Maersk’s strong global presence and its long-standing relationship with Pakistan, noting the company’s approximately 20% market share in containerized import-export activities. Discussions centered on expanding collaboration to reduce business costs and address challenges related to fragmented logistics infrastructure.

Mr. Svendsen proposed significant investments in integrated supply chain solutions, including upgrading ports and logistics infrastructure. The delegation expressed interest in working with the Government of Pakistan to develop existing ports and modernize facilities through capacity-building initiatives. Moller-Maersk committed to supporting Pakistan’s maritime advancement through these efforts, aligning with the company’s goals to foster talent and create a skilled workforce in the maritime sector.

Federal Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh welcomed Moller-Maersk’s interest, emphasizing the importance of public-private partnerships to unlock the full potential of Pakistan’s maritime sector. He reiterated the government’s commitment to investing in the blue economy as a driver of economic growth. Both parties agreed to pursue sustainable growth, innovation, and a vibrant maritime ecosystem, with a focus on achieving zero carbon emissions.

The role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) in facilitating foreign investment and providing a business-friendly environment was also acknowledged. Dr. Jahanzeb Khan, Secretary Apex Committee, SIFC, welcomed the Danish company’s interest in the maritime sector and expressed a desire to develop a mutual plan for the sector’s revitalization. Optimism was expressed about the transformative impact these initiatives could have on Pakistan’s economic landscape.
