Assam Police Detains Second IIT Student from Jammu and Kashmir Over ISIS Allegations

New Delhi, In a continuing operation, the Assam Special Task Force (STF) has detained Sohail-ur-Rehman, an IIT Assam student originally from Jammu, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), for further questioning related to allegations of ISIS support. This development comes shortly after the arrest of Tauseef Ali Farooqui, another student from IIT Guwahati, for similar allegations.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the arrest of Sohail-ur-Rehman is part of a broader investigation into potential ISIS support within the academic community in Assam. The STF, under the leadership of Kamrup Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak, conducted a detailed interrogation at Lohit Hostel in IIT Guwahati to gather more information about Sohail’s activities and associations.

Tauseef Ali Farooqui is currently under police custody following his arrest for expressing support for ISIS on social media platforms. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has revealed that security agencies are also scrutinizing another student from IIT Guwahati as part of the ongoing investigation.

These arrests highlight the vigilance of Indian security forces in monitoring and acting against any form of support for ISIS, a designated terrorist organization, within the country’s borders.
