Azad Kashmir Marks World Environment Day with Student Speech Competition

Muzaffarabad, In recognition of World Environment Day, the Environmental Protection Agency of Azad Kashmir organized a speech competition among students from various schools across ten districts. The event, titled “Harmful Effects of Plastic Pollution on Human Health and Natural Environment,” aimed to raise awareness about environmental issues among the younger generation.

According to Press Information Department – Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the competition was supported by the Department of Elementary Secondary Education and Star Hydropower Company. Prominent figures including Azad Kashmir Secretary Environment and Wildlife Mazhar Farooq Janjua and Director Environment Shafiq Abbasi addressed the event, emphasizing the urgent need to tackle environmental challenges. Cash prizes and certificates were awarded to students who excelled in the competition.

The event also highlighted ongoing environmental initiatives in Azad Kashmir, such as the cleanup of Mangala Dam and the establishment of state-of-the-art environmental labs. The local efforts to protect wildlife and introduce infrastructure like dust bins along key routes were also discussed. These actions are part of a broader commitment to make Azad Kashmir a model region in environmental conservation.
