Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Chairs Disaster Management Meeting

Muzaffarabad, The Azad Kashmir State Disaster Management Commission convened a significant meeting at the Prime Minister’s House, led by Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar Haq, to enhance disaster preparedness and response mechanisms in the region.

According to Press Information Department – Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the meeting saw the participation of key figures including Information Minister Mazhar Saeed, Secretary Finance Islam Zeib, and other senior officials. The Director General of the State Disaster Management Authority, Raja Tahir Mumtaz, provided a comprehensive briefing on the agency’s budget and its performance during recent natural disasters. The commission approved the procurement of relief items from the State Disaster Management Fund and sanctioned a death benefit package for an assistant director who died on duty.

During the session, Prime Minister Haq emphasized the government’s primary responsibility to protect the lives and properties of its citizens, directing efforts to bolster the State Disaster Management Authority’s capabilities. This includes conducting training and refresher courses for its employees to ensure readiness for unforeseen events. Furthermore, the Prime Minister ordered a seismic study of Mirpur and Muzaffarabad and stressed the need for more resources for rescue organizations to improve their operational effectiveness. He also mandated that all procurement should be conducted through e-tendering to ensure transparency.
