Islamabad, Mrs. Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), held a significant meeting today with representatives from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Karandaaz. The discussions focused on advancing skill development, digitalizing payment mechanisms, and improving health and nutrition for women and children in Pakistan.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting addressed the crucial upgrades needed for the BISP, particularly in the digital transformation of its payment systems to ensure efficiency and transparency. Mrs. Khalid emphasized the importance of reducing human involvement in the disbursement process to minimize fraud risks and ensure timely payments to beneficiaries. The collaboration aims to lift beneficiaries out of poverty by integrating them more fully into the economy.
Furthermore, in a subsequent meeting with Ms. Coco Ushiyama, Country Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), Mrs. Khalid reaffirmed BISP’s dedication to enhancing the health and nutrition of women and children through the Benazir Nashonuma Programme. This initiative targets malnutrition and stunting, critical issues in Pakistan’s health sector. The WFP expressed strong support for these health initiatives, underscoring a shared commitment to improving food security and health outcomes in vulnerable populations.
