Lahore, In a heartfelt ceremony attended by government officials and dignitaries, Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, announced significant enhancements to special education with the creation of 300 centers of excellence across Punjab. This initiative is part of a broader campaign to improve educational opportunities for special needs children and integrate them more fully into society.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, Chief Minister Sharif personally engaged with the children at the event, taking part in activities, observing medical tests for the hearing impaired, and reviewing their crafts and paintings. The ceremony also marked the launch of an enrollment campaign aimed at integrating out-of-school special children.
During her address, Chief Minister Sharif sat among the special needs children rather than speaking from a traditional podium, highlighting her personal commitment to their welfare. She described the children as her “heroes,” praising their resilience and determination to overcome daily challenges. Sharif underscored the importance of the new educational centers, which will offer world-class facilities and aim to mainstream special needs children.
The ceremony included contributions from UNICEF representative Abdullah Fadel and Secretary of Special Education Saima Saeed, who both emphasized the critical importance of supporting special education. Additionally, the event featured cultural presentations by special needs students, including recitations and performances of the national anthem and songs.
Chief Minister Sharif also announced plans for a new institution focused on autism and reiterated her call for community support to provide necessary aids such as wheelchairs and hearing devices to those in need. The proactive measures announced reflect a comprehensive strategy by the Punjab government to not only enhance educational opportunities for special needs children but also to ensure their social and economic inclusion.
This initiative aligns with broader efforts to bolster the rights and opportunities of special needs individuals across the province, ensuring that no member of the community is left behind.
