Srinagar, Recent reports have surfaced accusing political parties in occupied Jammu and Kashmir of exploiting children for election-related activities. These activities allegedly include distributing posters and pamphlets, participating in slogan shouting at campaign rallies, and attending election meetings.
According to Kashmir Media Service, specific cases have highlighted the issue, such as that of Aisha, a 15-year-old girl, who was reportedly coerced into participating in an election rally for an influential political leader. She was allegedly made to carry banners and chant slogans without understanding their political significance. In a similar account, 16-year-old Faizan has been involved in setting up banners and posters for a political party around Srinagar and its neighboring areas.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights in India has responded to these allegations by requesting the Election Commission to launch an investigation into the involvement of school-going children in election campaigning. Meanwhile, child rights activists are advocating for enhanced accountability and the establishment of safeguards to prevent such exploitation of children in the future.
