Lahore: In a significant move to advance renewable energy capabilities, a Chinese solar company has finalized an agreement with the Punjab government to establish a solar panel manufacturing and assembly plant in the province. This development was facilitated by the concerted efforts of Punjab’s Special Investment Facilitation Council.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the agreement was signed by Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, Punjab’s Minister of Industries and Commerce, and Alex Heng, South Pacific Region President of the Chinese firm AIKO. The new facility is expected not only to serve the local market but also to enhance the export potential of the region.
During the signing ceremony, Minister Hussain emphasized the strategic importance of this investment, noting that it represents a broader interest from various foreign entities in Punjab’s burgeoning solar energy sector. He also outlined ambitious plans by the provincial government to collaborate with energy companies for converting 7,000 agricultural tube wells to solar power and to provide solar panels to low-income households, further solidifying Punjab’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
