Kolkata, A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer was arrested in Kolkata after allegedly molesting two women in their home in the South 24 Parganas district. This incident adds to a series of concerns regarding the behavior of paramilitary forces within civilian communities in India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the accused, Niranjan Pradhan of the G-64 battalion of the CRPF, allegedly entered the house of two sisters in BT Road Baruipur and molested them while they were asleep. The officer was in the area on duty related to the Lok Sabha elections.
The assault was interrupted by the victims’ screams, which alerted the locals. They rushed to the women’s aid, apprehended Pradhan, and subsequently handed him over to the local police. An FIR was registered at the Chitpur police station, leading to Pradhan’s arrest based on the allegations made by the sisters.
This case has sparked outrage in the community and raises serious questions about the conduct of security forces stationed in civilian areas, especially during sensitive periods such as elections.
In a separate but related incident, the report also noted the killing of a police head constable, Sodi Laxman, by unidentified assailants at a funfair in the Maoist-affected Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges and dangers faced by law enforcement personnel in regions with active insurgencies.
