KARACHI: In a move aimed at streamlining cross-border trade, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), Board of Investment (BOI), and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), along with private sector service providers, are set to be integrated with the Pakistan Single Window (PSW) system. This development was announced by Muhammad Asim Awan, Deputy Collector Customs & Domain Officer PSW, during a seminar organized by the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI).
According to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the seminar featured a presentation titled “Latest Initiatives and Future Projects of PSW,” where Asim Awan detailed that the integration at ports would save an average of three days per consignment and $50 per container. He also mentioned plans for technical upgrades to WeBOC and additional integrations with global platforms such as China Single Window and the e-Phyto Hub of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC).
The seminar saw attendance from KCCI President Muhammad Jawed Bilwani and other notable officials, along with a significant number of importers and exporters. Asim Awan also highlighted PSW’s collaboration with Alibaba to create an e-commerce module aimed at consolidating all stakeholders onto a single platform to address e-commerce challenges efficiently.
Awan further noted that 67 percent of imported goods and 12 percent of exports require regulation by various departments, a figure that reaches 100 percent when accounting for forms related to the State Bank. He emphasized that the PSW program is transformative and poised to enhance government revenue, compliance, and efficiency while reducing bureaucracy.
KCCI President Jawed Bilwani remarked on the high engagement at the seminar, reflecting stakeholders’ interest in PSW’s offerings. He acknowledged the potential for PSW to reduce business costs by minimizing demurrage and detention charges, though he pointed out that delays in goods clearance remain problematic. Bilwani praised the self-clearance system under PSW and expressed interest in further encouraging businesses to integrate with the system for cost benefits.
