ECNEC Greenlights Nineteen Development Projects to Bolster National Infrastructure

Islamabad, The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved a sweeping array of nineteen development projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure across Pakistan. Chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, the meeting focused on sectors including flood resilience, housing, transportation, and health.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, a significant portion of the approvals was dedicated to flood response and resilience efforts. This includes four sub-components of a 400 million-dollar World Bank-funded Integrated Flood Resilience and Adaptation Programme, targeting the reconstruction and rehabilitation of flood-affected areas in Balochistan. The forum also sanctioned the revised Flood Response Emergency Housing Project in Sindh with an allocation of 296 billion rupees, underscoring the federal government’s commitment to housing reconstruction in the region.

Additionally, the meeting approved the revised Project Concept-I (PC-I) for the operationalization of the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit System in Karachi at a new budget of 13.502 billion rupees. Infrastructure projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor also received attention, including the re-alignment of the Karakoram Highway (KKH) between Thakot and Raikot, which was cleared at a cost of 13.067 billion yuan.

Other notable projects include the electrical and mechanical works for the Lowari tunnel, the construction of a 48 MW Jagran hydro power station, and the extension of the Sehat Sahulat Program until the end of December.
