Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has announced that national-level efforts are underway to address the flood situation impacting various regions of the country. During a media briefing in Islamabad, alongside Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik and NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider, Tarar highlighted that a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister assessed the flood conditions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting also evaluated ongoing relief and rescue operations. Coordination with provincial governments is being maintained effectively. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has been consistently providing data to relevant authorities through an early warning system, ensuring timely updates.
Attaullah Tarar emphasized that NDMA is actively communicating with provincial governments under the Prime Minister’s directives. Relief activities are ongoing in the affected regions. Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik assured that efforts are being made to compensate victims for their losses. He urged provincial governments to launch campaigns to relocate people living near rivers and nullahs in mountainous areas to safer locations.
Chairman NDMA, Lieutenant General Inam Haider, stated that the Authority is in continuous coordination with provincial governments to ensure timely assistance and effective response in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. He reported that 670 people have died and 1,000 others have been injured due to rains, floods, and landslides. Over 420 flood relief camps have been activated in the affected areas.
He further mentioned that two to three more monsoon spells are anticipated, with the current spell expected to last until Friday. The situation is projected to stabilize by the end of September. Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik added that the government’s top priority is to rescue individuals and relocate them to safer areas. Damage assessment will commence once the monsoon season concludes.
