Islamabad, In a significant move to address environmental challenges, the Federal Government has established the country’s first Climate Change Authority. This new body is mandated under the Climate Change Act 2017 and comes as part of efforts to combat global warming and environmental degradation.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the decision to create the Climate Change Authority was in response to a directive from a three-member Supreme Court bench, which emphasized the urgent need for structured action against climate risks. The Authority will have its headquarters in Islamabad, with the option to establish additional offices elsewhere as needed.
The establishment of the Climate Change Authority aims to streamline and strengthen the nation’s response to climate-related issues, ensuring that there are dedicated resources and a clear mandate to tackle the challenges posed by climate change effectively.
