Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, met with Sir Michael Barber, Founder and Chairman of Delivery Associates, to discuss Pakistan’s economic strategies and reforms. The meeting, which took place at the Finance Division, included discussions on the Federal Budget 2024-25, structural reforms in taxation, and support from international partners.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting was attended by key figures including Development Director of the British High Commission Ms. Jo Moir, Senior Governance Advisor Mr. Matt Clancy, and other officials from the Finance Division. Sir Michael Barber praised the recent Federal Budget and the taxation reforms implemented by the Government of Pakistan, acknowledging the challenges and reaffirming his commitment to supporting Pakistan’s economic plans.
Minister Aurangzeb expressed gratitude towards Sir Michael and the UK government for their ongoing support. He highlighted the priority areas for the government, which include further taxation reforms, energy sector adjustments, and the restructuring of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). Emphasizing the significance of structural reforms within the International Monetary Fund’s program framework, the Minister outlined initiatives aimed at boosting exports, attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and privatization efforts. The government’s focus on export-led growth and the digitalization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) were underscored as essential steps towards ensuring transparency and broadening the tax base.
The meeting concluded with both parties committing to enhance collaboration, focusing on mutual strategic goals and sustainable economic development.
