First Kashmir Youth Conference Convenes in Nottingham to Advocate for Kashmiri Rights

Nottingham: The inaugural Kashmir Youth Conference, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) in Nottingham, United Kingdom, brought together Kashmiri students, intellectuals, and leaders to discuss the role of the Kashmiri diaspora in the ongoing freedom movement. The event highlighted the community’s commitment to achieving self-determination and addressed pressing issues such as the release of detained political leaders.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the conference, titled “Role of Kashmiri Youth Abroad in Freedom Movement of Kashmir,” saw the participation of a diverse group of attendees including scholars, Hurriyat leaders, academicians, and human rights advocates based in the UK. They reiterated their resolve to persist in the freedom struggle until it reaches a logical conclusion and called for the release of all Kashmiri political leaders, including JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik. Discussions also focused on the demilitarization of occupied territories.

A key outcome of the conference was the decision to establish the Jammu and Kashmir Diaspora Youth Council, aimed at fostering dialogue and activism among young Kashmiris abroad. The conference paid homage to historical figures of the Kashmiri liberation movement and concluded with the adoption of the “Nottingham Declaration.” This document asserts the unity of the Kashmir Valley, Jammu, Ladakh, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan as integral parts of Jammu and Kashmir, condemns Indian policies in the region, and calls on the international community, particularly the British government, to help facilitate a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
